Expansion of the Multimodal imaging Module

Expansion of the Imaging Module

At the end of 2024, funding was secured from the Dr. Rolf M. Schwiete Foundation, which will enable the imaging module to be expanded to include eight additional centers. As a result, a total of ten centers in the TOFU Registry will provide imaging data in the near future. The goal of the imaging module is to further develop imaging-based biomarkers for uveitis.
In routine clinical practice, various imaging techniques are used to monitor disease progression. Individual parameters of these techniques are already established as prognostic biomarkers for functional improvement. A standardized, imaging-based assessment of posterior pole involvement (e.g., in chorioretinal lesions) as well as intraocular inflammation—such as through automated analysis of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) —could be superior to the currently standard clinical assessment of disease activity, as it enables greater reproducibility and comparability between examiners.

The multimodal imaging module of the TOFU Registry generates real-world data from patients with non-anterior, non-infectious uveitis, thereby providing a broad data foundation for a wide range of research questions.
